Being Black and Gay @ SMU

SMU Discussion

It is important to update your HIV status every 3 – 6 months, depending on your sexual activity, and encourage your friends to do the same. There are a number of individuals out there who are unaware of their HIV status; out of the 1.1 million people living with HIV, only 25% know of their status and are linked into care. Having good support system helps the process.

REMEMBER: HIV is only deadly if people remain ignorant to it.

If you or someone you know is HIV-positive, don’t let that rain on your parade because it is NOT the end of the world. Many people live amazing lives even with HIV in their bodies; the key is staying in the know and adhering to your treatment. Ask yourself how can you be positive support for those living with HIV!?! Maybe you can create a fun way to help remind a friend to take his/her meds or join him/her in upcoming doctors visits.

Winning the fight against HIV/AIDS will only happen if we come together as a community and make it happen! Now more than ever, we need the youth to take stand against HIV….OPEN UP AND TALK ABOUT IT!
