Two free public tools let you check any nonprofit's status yourself, rather than taking its word for it. Here's how they work, and what three Dallas health nonprofits say about themselves.
How to check any nonprofit yourself
Candid(formerly GuideStar) lets the public search more than 1.8 million IRS-recognized tax-exempt organizations by name or EIN. A Candid profile can show whether an organization meets IRS requirements and lets you view its filed Form 990s, the annual financial disclosure most nonprofits are required to submit.
The IRS's Tax Exempt Organization Search (TEOS) is the official federal tool for the same question. It shows an organization's eligibility to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions and its filing history, including Form 990-series returns, Form 990-N e-Postcards, Publication 78 data, the auto-revocation list, and determination letters issued since 2014. You can search it by EIN, organization name, or location.
Using either tool takes a few minutes and does not require taking any organization's claim of nonprofit status at face value.

Resource Center
Resource Center of Dallas, Inc. (EIN 75-1892059) has a public profile onCandidshowing its Form 990 filings. Resource Center's own site describes its mission as empowering the LGBTQ community and all people affected by HIV through improving health and wellness, strengthening families and communities, and providing education and advocacy. It states it was established in 1983.
AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF)
AHFdescribes itself as a global 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is "cutting-edge medicine and advocacy regardless of ability to pay." It states it operates healthcare centers, pharmacies, and related services as part of what it calls its Circle of Care network.
Prism Health North Texas
Prism Health North Texas describes itself as a nonprofit healthcare provider established in 1986, with a mission to promote the health equity of the communities it serves through education, prevention, research, and affirming personalized healthcare. It states it achieved Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike status in 2024.
